The thought of taking pictures and getting them onto your computer may seem daunting if you're new to digital photography, but the Digital Rebel XTi400D and your image-editing software should make the process easy and fast. Not only will you have the instant gratification of seeing your pictures as you take them, but you will also have a powerful tool to improve your photography skills and your pictures. You will also soon discover that the amount of control that you have over the final image is unprecedented.

At this point, you should already have completed the essentials, such as attaching the lens, charging the battery, inserting a CompactFlash (CF) card, and reading the manual. Once you've come that far, this Quick Tour will help you to quickly get started using the Digital Rebel XTi/400D to take your first pictures and get them onto your computer.

Taking Your First Pictures

Having charged and inserted the battery, inserted the CF card, attached the lens, and turned the camera on, you're ready to set up the camera to take your first pictures.
