6.4. CANON LENSES

The world can be shown in a wide variety of ways with the tremendous selection of Canon lenses. The rest of this chapter covers everything from super-telephoto to macro and wide-angle lenses, and how they can work for your particular style of photography.

Figures 6-5 through 6-11 show a series of images taken with Canon lenses at seven different focal lengths. Compare how they reflect the same view in different ways.

Figure 6-5. A range of focal lengths taken of Washington State's Lake Wilderness and Mt. Rainier from the same location, on a tripod. The image focal lengths, beginning with the wide-angle shot, include 15mm (6-5), 24mm (6-6), 60mm (6-7), 70mm (6-8), 135mm (6-9), 150mm (6-10), and 200mm (6-11). A few things to notice in these images, other than the focal lengths, include the lens flare intruding on the 15mm and 24mm shots; the increase in haze in the longer telephoto shots (even though a skylight/haze filter was used); and the richness of color of the wider versus the longer shots. The images were taken in P (program) mode at IS 400. 6-5: 1/500 sec. at f/11; 6-6: 1/640 sec. at f/16; 6-7: 1/400 sec. at f/8; 6-8: 1/1250 sec. at f/13; 6-9: 1/1600 sec. at f/10; 6-10: 1/1250 sec. at f/8; 6-11: 1/1600 sec. at f/8.
