Applying the Capability Model

Competency and capability models are useful tools for individual and organizational planning because they go beyond the superficial what-people-do information conveyed in job descriptions and job analysis approaches, and convey the specific knowledge and skills individuals need to complete tasks in a way that links to organizational goals and strategies (Campion et al. 2011). This level of specificity enables individuals and organizations to take a more targeted approach to identifying skills gaps and determining the appropriate path to proficiency.
