Making initial hardware choices is tricky and requires anticipating the evolving demands of astrophotography, in the face of overwhelming consumer choice.

At some point, we will move on from traditional camera lenses and bodies. The equipment emphasis so far has been on the tracking system and other than some initial considerations for scenic applications, not a lot has been said on the subject of optics or the best camera selection for astrophotography. Making this choice (or choices) is complicated and influenced by many things, both inside and outside of our control.
