Cr(VI) compounds are yellow to orange. B. Sample 1—No effect adding 1 teaspoon citric acid (don’t use this!) C. Sample 2—Immediate reduction adding 1 teaspoon ascorbic acid without stirring D. Sample 2 after stirring. Complete reduction. Note the purple-brown on the walls of the beaker after stirring. Cr(III) compounds are green or brown/purple.
