On January 12, 2010, Christa Brelsford, a PhD student with a Master’s Degree in Engineering, was in Darbonne, Haiti. Her brother, Julian, a volunteer with Haiti Partners, had asked her to conduct a feasibility study on a wall that would protect a rural area from floodwaters.
