Our phone rings all day long with potential clients who need resume services so they can begin the process of conducting an effective job search.
We always ask them about their situation, whether they are employed currently or unemployed. We ask why they are looking for a new role, what type of position they'd like to go after, and what sort of salary range they are targeting.
Inevitably, we hear stories about terrible jobs, terrible situations, terrible pay, or lack of forward growth in their careers. There are many things that make people want to leave where they are and head somewhere else, but over the past few years “toxic boss” is rearing its ugly head and is a main reason why someone wants to move on.
As the pressure to keep businesses profitable amid challenging economic environments, the shit, as they say, rolls downhill. Your boss may be under extreme pressure to do more with less, or have the higher-ups within the company demanding that business return to pre-pandemic levels of service, profitability, and growth. This can be a stressful situation for anyone, even the most experienced or seasoned professionals. It is certainly not an excuse for poor behavior, but it may explain why “toxic boss” cases are on the rise.
