Chapter 4. Network Access
Two layers within the OSI model are so closely tied that according to the TCP/IP model they are in essence one layer. In this chapter, we review the general functions of the physical and data link layers.
Physical Layer Protocols
Before any network communications can occur, a physical connection to a local network must be established first. A physical connection can be a wired or a wireless connection. The type of connection depends totally on the setup of the network.
