Requests for Comments
A Request for Comments (RFC) is a document that outlines a plan or proposal that the author wants to get feedback on. The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) uses RFCs as the basis for documenting Internet standards. RFCs enable the Internet community, not just people who write documents, to be involved in the standard-setting process.
RFCs are freely available from the IETF website at www.ietf.org. They are numbered sequentially in date submission order, so newer RFCs have higher RFC numbers.
This section includes a list of security-related RFCs. You do not need to read every RFC, but you can use these RFCs as a reference point for detailed information on a specific RFC topic.
