Managing IP Connections
With the IP suite that is available in Cisco IOS Software, a number of services are available to help control and manage your IP connections. Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) provides many of these services. ICMP does this by sending messages to hosts or other routers when a problem is discovered with the Internet header. For more detailed information about ICMP, refer to RFC 950, “Internet Standard Subnetting Procedure.”
Some of the services that can help you manage various aspects of IP connections include the following:
