Quality of service (QOS) involves how we as network administrators ensure that different types of traffic can be managed differently. In this chapter, we are going to delve into the underlying mechanisms that allow us to be able to select which particular type of traffic we want to provide preferential treatment to.

Preferential treatment means that out of all the available bandwidth we have, we want to cut out a portion and assign it to one particular type of traffic such that it is going to be receiving better treatment than the traffic it’s sharing the overall bandwidth with.
