Configure Layer 2 Security Features
With so many new and emerging threats (and attackers) today, we love to build “defense in depth” into our networks. We include security at as many layers of the OSI model as we possibly can. Certainly, we begin security measures at Layer 1, the physical layer. We do this, of course, by keeping network equipment locked away and physically protected from attacks. This chapter focuses on several Layer 2 security mechanisms that go quite far in helping secure our networks and data: port security, DHCP snooping, and dynamic ARP inspection.
