Chapter 20. Implementing HSRP for First-Hop Routing
Businesses rely on their networks to get their work done. Some businesses rely more on the network than others, with a direct connection between network outages and lost revenue. For instance, when the network is down, some companies lose customers, or lose sales, or they cannot ship their goods to market, affecting sales volume in the future. Companies can design their networks to use redundancy—extra devices and extra links—so that when a device fails, or a link fails, the network still works. The extra devices may cost more money, but the cost may be justified, given the cost of an outage.
