VTP is used to advertise VLAN attributes across trunk links to ease the administration of VLANs on multiple switches. VTP is available in three versions: v1, v2, and v3. There is also the off mode. VTPv1 and v2 are similar. A VTPv2 transparent switch forwards VTP messages without checking the version or domain name. VTPv3 additionally supports creating extended-range VLANs in client or server mode. VTPv3 also supports private VLANs in client and server modes.
