The Cisco Network Admission Control (NAC) solution evaluates the state (credentials, compliance with security policies, verification of vulnerabilities and remediation when necessary) of wired and wireless users and machines before granting them access to the network. The NAC solution is available in two modes: in-band (the NAC always stands between the users and the network, and all traffic traverses the NAC), and out-of-band (the NAC is not on the user path to the network, and is queried to evaluate and authorize users and machines).
