Cisco controllers support local Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP), allowing users to authenticate using accounts stored locally at the controller. Local EAP is intended for use as a backup to RADIUS authentication, although it can be used by itself. When set up this way, the controller will try to contact the RADIUS server first, and only use its local database when it fails to get a response from the RADIUS server.
