Chapter 5. Implement and Manage the Enterprise Mesh (Indoors)
With the increased adoption of wireless network solutions, network designers face new challenges. Wireless coverage may be required in areas where access point (AP) deployment is difficult. Typical examples are large warehouses where APs have to be positioned more than 300 feet away from the nearest switch (300 feet is the maximum Ethernet cable length per the 802.3 protocol) or on ceilings where no Ethernet connection is available. In this type of environment, mesh networks offer a viable solution to combine the usage of wireless links between participating APs, and the dynamic adaptation to changing the RF environment allowed by the controller-based solution.
