Whether to use the MAPI controls in your messaging project depends on the project itself. The controls have the lowest learning curve of all of the MAPI access methodologies (although CDO is not far behind). However, they don’t expose anywhere near the level of functionality as does CDO. The inability to access folders other than the Inbox is a particularly glaring lack. If your application will never need to do more than send simple text messages and/or read text messages from the Inbox, go ahead and use these controls. Otherwise, you’ll likely want to use CDO.
