Chapter 7: NB-IoT
Abstract
This chapter presents the design of Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT). The first part of this chapter describes the background behind the introduction of NB-IoT in the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) specifications and the design principles of the technology.
The second part of this chapter focuses on the physical channels with an emphasis on how these channels were designed to fulfill the objectives that NB-IoT was intended to achieve, namely, deployment flexibility, ubiquitous coverage, ultra-low device cost, long battery lifetime, and capacity sufficient for supporting a massive number of devices in a cell.
