How did writing this book lead to a complete change of life plan?
As a business consultant and speaker, life was good. Fired up on creating business change with social purpose, and in the process of writing a book about that (this one, in fact) I arranged to meet a group of headteachers – and asked them this question ‘Do you think the City is contributing to the UK becoming a fairer, as well as a richer society?’ They said, ‘Well, we have to bring in food every day because so many children arrive hungry and there’s nothing for them until lunchtime. We have free school lunches but no breakfast. And the most important lessons are taught in the morning. So we always bring in biscuits, or fruit to give out – otherwise we can’t teach.’
