Sibbet and Wendling (2018) describe change as a “river.” Rivers are never the same from one season to the next and often differ a lot from one another. Holes, swirls, big rocks appear and disappear depending on how the water is running. This is a good metaphor for the fluid environment that leaders must navigate to champion and lead change. Part of navigating a river or the chaotic environment (the “speed of now”) leaders are experiencing requires a willingness to enter into the unknown.
