One of the most painfully true endings in the history of movies is the end of Mary Poppins. I watched it when I was a kid and with each of our four children, and each time I’ve been struck by the poignancy of Mary having to leave the Banks family for good. They’ve grown to love this woman who floated into their lives and mended the family’s broken heart.

But the wind is changing. And Mary has to go. The Banks family has to let her go. Because that’s what life is, the continuous process of consciously letting go. What are we prepared to let go of?
