More than 10 years of these Wednesday morning meetings have given us countless lessons in common sense and a ringside seat for the changing trends of business.
The same eight colleagues that were introduced in The Commercial Real Estate Revolution still attend. All are owners of companies that play a role in commercial construction. The companies range from millions to several hundred million dollars in size. We are at that point in our careers where handing off the baton to the next generation of leadership has become one of our common subjects of discussion. We still talk about the market, competition, change, and, yes, our families.
We are all survivors. We made it through the incredible downturn that caused our industry to collapse in 2008. All of our businesses retrenched and restructured. Today we are all healthy and growing. Our companies are not as quick to add people to the payroll, we are more selective of the culture fit, and we are all focused on making sure our work is close to our core strengths. We all feel fortunate for weathering the storm and grateful for the deposit of resolve and respect it salted into our interaction with each other. ...
