As an academic, I love a good theory. We progress by standing on the shoulders of others. Thus, I have drawn on a wide range of rigorous research that has laid the foundations for the key concepts and ideas in this book. The efforts of hundreds of researchers and academics informed my research questions and methodologies.
However, theory on its own does not help managers improve their practice, deliver their goods and services with greater effectiveness or necessarily make them feel more confident. Most want to make a difference to their own lives and those of the people around them.
