The 20th century made significant contributions to the cause of gender equality—(a) by internationalising women’s and other oppressed people’s struggles for justice; (b) by creating institutions which provided the international support and for a for creative interaction between differing perspectives and peoples; and (c) providing an environment for development of international scholarship which sought to demystify the links between the economy, power structures, cultural practices or beliefs and gender relations.
