The Government has recognised the status of Chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Tribes to be equivalent to that of a Cabinet Minister. We would request the Commission to insist on similar recognition in the case of the Commission on Women.
It is important to ensure that the post of Member Secretary be filled by a full time senior officer with the rank at least of an Additional Secretary. This would facilitate dealings with various government ministries and departments.
