Further to amend the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872, and the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Whereas the incidence of the commission of the offence of rape, especially on children, is on the increase in recent times.

And whereas inspite of a large number of amendments having been made in the laws relating to rape, acquittals have been made on grounds of age, religion, caste, community or social status of the accused in the society and other considerations not relevant to the commission of the offence of rape.
