Introduction: The New Focus
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has promoted, strengthened and given direction to the Women’s Studies programme in the country since the VII Plan period. Women’s Studies Centres have been established in the University System in the VIIIth, IXth and Xth Plan periods. They have contributed significantly to the expansion of Women’s Studies teaching, research and field action.
