Abstract
This chapter provides a tutorial overview of important aspects of space-time block codes (STBCs). After describing the necessary preliminaries it deals with STBCs with low maximum-likelihood (ML) decoding complexity. Multi-group low ML decoding complexity decodable codes are discussed along with their encoding complexity. STBCs simultaneously offering both full-rate and full-diversity that are constructed from algebraic structures are presented.
