Chapter 14 Valley Observers
The community of Silicon Valley can be thought of as a series of concentric circles. At the core is the central activity: the electron manipulating and deal backing that creates and sustains the place.
The next sphere out is made up of those who attend to this core activity at close hand: accountants, marketeers, journalists, lawyers, even private detectives.
Spinning farther out would be those who take the products designed for technological applications and seek to pull from them aesthetic creations: electronic artists and composers.
And farther still would be those who observe this scene and are involved in it, but who, for reasons they will explain, distance themselves from it: social critics.
