Chapter objectives

After successful conclusion of the chapter, the students must be able to

•   Select the objective function to optimize for the best design configuration for a fixed-bed reactor.

•   Collect relevant kinetic, thermodynamic, and transport parameters.

•   Choose a reactor model given the reaction parameters.

•   Choose a flow modality.

•   Choose a heat-exchange protocol.

•   Provide an optimum design for a given reaction with one or more of the following objective functions: yield, selectivity, material economy, and energy economy.
