Chapter 12 Multiphase reactions and reactors

Chapter objectives

After the completion of this chapter, the successful student must be able to

•   Select the most suitable multiphase reactor for the reaction at hand.

•   Determine mass transfer coefficients and gas (or liquid) bubble sizes from physical properties and flow parameters of the fluids.

•   Differentiate various multiphase reactor types such as mechanically agitated slurry reactors (MASRs), bubble column slurry reactors (BCSRs), loop slurry reactors (LSRs), and trickle bed reactors (TBRs).

•   Collect and interpret laboratory data for multiphase reactions.
