ADDING COLOR TO SHADOWS

Shadows are everywhere. It actually takes a great deal of effort to create a shadowless image: you need several lights and some reflectors or fill cards. But shadows aren’t our enemy. They’re actually fantastic companions for color. Remember the scenario with orange-haired Elinor at the end of chapter 1? I referred to the shadows as a placeholder for the blue light I added. This chapter will cover the technique of intentionally creating shadows on your subject and background in order to fill them in with colored light.
