Chapter 2. Planning Centralized Call Processing Deployments

Centralized deployments characteristically employ low- to medium-speed WANs to interconnect geographically distinct locations to a headquarters site. Typically labeled hub-and-spoke reference design, this type of WAN links the remote spokes or offices to the hub or main site. Because most resources and related traffic originate or terminate at the center, and only minimal remote site-to-site conversations occur, this model suits many organizations. The hub-and-spoke reference model is a good base to build on when employing any WAN connectivity. It can be readily expanded to form regional centers of communication.
