Traditional phone system engineers are likely to have very different thoughts about security than traditional data network engineers. People who have managed phone systems are likely to be concerned primarily with issues of unauthorized access and toll fraud, whereas people with a data networking background are likely to have a wide range of concerns. This chapter considers security more from a data networking perspective, as a critical foundation to implementing a secure IP communications system.
