EIGRP Metrics, Successors, and Feasible Successors
Lesson 7: Routing Protocol Characteristics
Both OSPF and EIGRP use similar big ideas: enabling the protocol on the router’s interfaces, forming neighbor relationships, building topology tables, and adding IPv4 routes to the routing table. These two routing protocols differ most in the topology data they create and use. As a link-state protocol, OSPF creates and saves a lot of topology data, enough data to model the entire network topology in an area. EIGRP saves different kinds of data, in less detail, and uses a completely different algorithm to analyze the data.
