Virtual Private Networks (VPN) provide an Internet-based wide-area network (WAN) infrastructure for connecting branch offices, home offices, and telecommuters to the network. In other words, VPNs allow office locations and remote users to interconnect with each other securely through the Internet. After they are connected through the secure VPN connection, the interconnected networks become part of the network as if they were connected through a leased line such as a classic WAN link.
