Chapter 9

Bandwidth, Delay, and Jitter

This chapter covers the following exam topics:

  • 1. Standards and Concepts

    • 1.2. Differentiate between bandwidth and throughput.

Latency, delay, speed test vs. iPerf

The preceding two chapters described bandwidth as the capacity of a wired or wireless link. Bandwidth is a fundamental property of computer networks, closely related to delay and jitter—two other fundamental concepts of computer networking. This chapter considers the importance of bandwidth, delay, and jitter and how they are related.

The final section of this chapter discusses how to measure bandwidth and understand bandwidth measurements.
