Although, in many cases, you can just take your new switch out of the box and plug it into a port on an existing switch and be fine, if you have not changed any of the settings on your other switches, you will not be getting the best performance from these switches or your network.
In this chapter, you find out how to apply a basic configuration on your switch and gain a firm grasp on what you need to do to complete your switch configuration, from examining ports to creating users to managing switches. I show you what you need to do from the command line as well as some of the graphical tools that are available to you with Cisco products.
