In the general 802.1x/EAP (Extensible Authentication Protocol) and virtual private network (VPN) designs, large deployments can be taxing on the scalability and availability of network services. Domain Name System (DNS) and Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP) are typically already deployed in a high availability and scalability manner within enterprises due to wired LAN’s reliance on these services.
