Chapter Nine. The Application and Use of Cryptography
The current exam breaks cryptography into several domains, including Domain 2, Asset Security (Protecting Security of Assets) and Domain 3: Security Engineering (Engineering and Management of Security). Because this is such an important topic for so many readers, it has been broken out into its own chapter. This chapter examines cryptography and the ways to prevent the disclosure of critical information and to ensure integrity. The word cryptography is based on Greek words that loosely translate into “hidden writing.” Cryptography is based on old-world science that strived to find ways to provide secrecy. Today it is used for privacy, integrity, nonrepudiation, and authentication.
