Inequalities Among the Working Class: A Historical Perspective

This chapter will deal with the origin and development of the working class after the Industrial Revolution. However, the major part of the chapter will focus on the situation in India. The origin of the working class in India lies roughly a century after its origins in England. There have been a lot of changes in the working class over the years. These changes are largely due to factors external to labour such as changes in technology, composition of capital, political environment and due to factors internal to organisation of labour such as trade unions and others relating to the labour movement.
