An interesting finding in psychology research is that people make decisions differently if the decision is a simple one versus a complex one.
When less is best
A psychologist at The University of Amsterdam named Ap Dijksterhuis observed people shopping for furniture at IKEA. Furniture shopping can involve complex decisions because there are so many variables to consider. Similar to the findings of the ham study, Dijksterhuis found that when people spent a longer amount of time analyzing their decisions, they became less happy with their decisions. The shoppers who didn’t spend much time thinking and just went with their gut reactions were the most happy.
