The pharmaceutical industry in India is recognised globally for its successful generics business and its ability to attract a large number of industry-sponsored global clinical trials. This chapter discusses the drug development initiatives of pharmaceutical companies in India and deliberates on the evolution of clinical research in various business segments. It revisits the amount of clinical trials being carried out by pharmaceutical companies in various therapeutic areas. It also discusses the growth of the regulatory environment in India and presents a PESTLE analysis to demonstrate the growing clinical research environment in India.
