FOUR Exposure & Metering Modes

 

 

VIRTUALLY ALL DSLRS have a range of exposure modes. The most common are, Programmed Auto, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority and Manual. In close-up photography, the most frequently used settings are Aperture Priority and, to a lesser degree, Manual.

PROGRAMMED AUTO MODE (P)

In this mode, the camera selects both the f/number and shutter speed. You set the ISO value, and the camera will choose the appropriate shutter speed and aperture combination, based on the available light present. The downside is you have little control over the depth of field, or how much of the subject will be in sharp focus. Also, the whole exposure process is now controlled by the camera.
