HAVING preached the virtues of using a tripod earlier in this book, I now find myself defending valid reasons as to when it becomes a hindrance rather than an advantage. Don’t misunderstand me, I still shoot every image I can with one, but there are situations when it becomes challenging to photograph active insects for a number of reasons. Rough, overgrown terrain makes it difficult to manoeuvre a tripod without disturbing the surrounding vegetation, forcing your quarry and anything else to make a hasty exit.
