IFIRST became aware of this technique about 2010 when a friend of mine Niall Benvie along with Clay Bolt developed a clever initiative in 2009 entitled ‘Meet Your Neighbours’, whereby people could reconnect with nature and wildlife in a unique and more intimate way. The concept centres around photographing the subject as a high key colour image where the background is entirely white, giving your subject a distinctive but identifiable look. The reasoning behind this approach is total engagement and appreciation of the subject without the distraction of a background, context or anything else.
