THE WIND more than any other of nature’s elements is the bane of every close-up photographer. The majority of other problems can, in most situations be overcome, but a persistent breeze is extremely annoying. Finding a sheltered spot away from exposed areas is usually the best option. You will often find that insects are of the same opinion and seek calmer well-sheltered areas where the temperature is a degree or two warmer. Early morning or late evening is a good time for photography; any breeze always seems to be that bit calmer earlier or later in the day.
