The Mix—Conditioning Musical Materials on Records

The term mixing finds a number of different applications within music-making communities. For instance, depending on the musical context, mixing can refer to the actions of DJs, live sound engineers, or those who mix or produce records. For the purpose of this book on CBMP, I only use the latter definition. More succinctly, I define mixing as the act of configuring musical materials within a recording project for the purpose of creating the sonic illusion of a musical performance.
