Cloud Infrastructure
In this chapter we overview the cloud computing infrastructure at Amazon, Google, and Microsoft as of mid-2012. These cloud service providers support one or more of the three cloud computing delivery models discussed in Section 1.4: Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). Amazon is a pioneer in IaaS, Google’s efforts are focused on SaaS and PaaS delivery models, and Microsoft is involved in PaaS.
